Dr. Bhagwat’s research focuses on high-density urban development and the impact of technology on city planning. His doctoral work resulted in a density-based policy framework for sustainable urban growth. He has published several research papers on carrying capacity, high-density urban planning, sustainable cities, and policy formulation based on urban density analysis.
Urban Underground Spaces (UUS) represent an underexplored yet critical area in the context of modern Indian cities. With escalating urban challenges—such as rising real estate costs, urban sprawl, leapfrog development, and increased travel times—it is essential for city planners to adopt innovative approaches to urban space management. UUS offers a promising strategy to address these issues; however, there exists a significant gap in context-specific research within this domain. Dr. Bhagwat aims to bridge this gap through his research. In addition, his work encompasses related areas including physical and social infrastructure planning, carrying capacity assessment, and water resource planning.
