Department of Planning

The Department of Planning at SPAV envisions advancing knowledge and creating new frontiers in 'Development and Planning' through enabling education, cutting-edge research, and professional consultancy. Since 2008, it has been shaping young minds towards technical proficiency, social responsibility, and ethical professionalism in Planning.

Our undergraduate and postgraduate students are equipped to study, design, and plan cities and regions, focusing on infrastructure, transportation, social amenities, land use zoning, housing, ecology, and governance, using state-of-the-art tools, techniques, and theories.

The Department started with the Bachelor of Planning program in 2008, followed by the Master of Planning program with specializations in 'Environmental Planning and Management' and 'Urban and Regional Planning' in 2013 and 2014 respectively. We also offer a Doctoral Research program since 2012.

Our students benefit from proficient planning expertise through full-time faculty and distinguished visiting faculty. Our alumni are successfully contributing across India and globally as professional planners in government and the private sector.

Pedagogy & Outreach

The predominant pedagogical approach of SPAV is learning by doing. Accordingly, the three planning programs offer theory subjects, studio subjects, and lab-based subjects. Each semester has approximately 17-18 weeks of teaching, with 35 periods per week. Planning Design Studio occupies a significant portion, supplemented by theory courses. Progressive internal assessments and semester-end examinations ensure comprehensive evaluation.
