Professional Biography

Prof. Dr. Ramesh Srikonda was born on August 28th, 1960 in Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, India. He acquired his Bachelor's Degree in Architecture in 1982 in first class with distinction from JN Technological University, Hyderabad, AP, and joined Anna University, Madras for post graduation in Town and Country Planning, passing out with First class in 1984. He also holds Post Graduation Diploma in Ecology and Environment from Institute of Ecology and Environment, Delhi.

He conducted extensive research on "Energy Conservation studies in Buildings through Components/Materials and Space conditioning Options" at IIT Delhi, an essential area of research for saving energy and conserving fossil fuels with due regard to Climate change, and acquired his Doctorate (PhD) from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

Prof. Srikonda entered Central Government Service through UPSC – Central Architectural Services (CAS) in 1985 (Central PWD) and rendered his professional services in various capacities such as Deputy Architect, Architect, Regional Architect, Senior Architect, Chief Architect and Director of Planning, slum & JJ, in Central Government. Presently, he serves as Director and Professor of Architecture at School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, established by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Prof. Srikonda has participated in various International and National Architectural and Town planning Competitions with remarkable success. His entry "Energy Efficient Housing in India" for World Habitat Awards 1992 was adjudged as five finalists by Building and Social Housing Foundation, Leicestershire, UK. He also secured first place in the idea Competition for Accommodating 3 lac population in Jaipur as "Urban Extension for Jaipur City" promoted by JDA in India.

He has initiated and associated in developing the New Course Structure and detailed syllabus for M.Arch with a clear focus on Sustainability in Architectural Built forms and Architectural Design with due consideration to Climate change, ecological/environmental sensitivity and energy efficiency. The programme of M.Arch (Sustainable Architecture) has been running successfully since 2013 and gaining importance year by year.

Prof. Srikonda has also been instrumental in revising the B.Arch Course structure and Syllabus keeping the need of the day and developing excellence with respect to the vision of the school to equip students with professional expertise and knowledge of local relevance and global competence.
